Last month, our team went through an exercise to help us better define our mission and our purpose. We outlined countless reasons why we do what we do. Everything from ending obesity to encouraging adventure to simply making life more enjoyable.
One mission kept coming back up, and most of us laughed it off as a joke. Until it came back around over and over, and we realized we were on to something.
We want to look good naked.
At the end of the day, we all want to look in the mirror and like what we see. And most of us want someone else to like it also.
In today’s society, we’re told we have to be so damn politically correct. We’re told to be careful what we say about the human body because it could be construed as “body-shaming”.
I’m not here to shame anyone. Research tells us that shame isn’t the best way to motivate people anyway. And I am here to motivate people. Believe me, if shame were the answer, I would use it as a tool if it meant getting you off the couch.
So instead of shame, I want to encourage you to use vanity. You should love looking in the mirror and seeing the progress you’re making. Whether you’re working on gaining weight, losing fat, toning your arms, defining your abs or strengthening your glutes, at the end of the day, you want to see progress in the mirror.
This doesn’t just apply to women. While I believe women may spend more time in front of the mirror, the male ego is also a powerful force and one you should take full advantage of. Get excited that you look stronger than your buddy from college. Or that your dad-bod is slowly toning up. Or that your wife can tell you’ve been working harder (believe me, she can tell).
There are a lot of reasons to get in shape, tone up or get stronger. For instance, we’re hiking the Rim to Rim to Rim of the Grand Canyon again in April. It’s almost 50 miles, in (hopefully) 18 hours or so. Every pound of fat I can shed between now and then is one less pound I have to pack with me. And every ounce of muscle I’ve built will be working to propel me through the hike.
But for two weeks before the Grand Canyon hike, we have back-to-back weddings here in Arizona. And you better believe I want to look good in those photos.
So it’s simple – some mornings, when I wake up and really really don’t want to go to the gym or go hike, I remind myself that the Canyon is coming. And on the days when that doesn’t work… I remind myself that those bridesmaid photos will be in our family till after I’m gone, and you’re damn right I want to look good!
At the end of the day, we all need tools to keep us motivated. We have to keep things like the Grand Canyon in our sights. For you, maybe you want to be healthy enough to play with your grandkids, strong enough to pack out an elk, or fast enough to run your first race. We just want you to be active, happy and healthy, whatever your motivation is. And hey, if you’re like us, just go ahead and admit it… you want to look good naked too.
[divider]SHED THE FAT[/divider]
If shedding fat is in your current game-plan, I’d encourage you to try out a little combo some of us have been using in the office: Lean Life + Wild C8 MCT.
Here’s how I’m using it:
- 6:15 am: Brute Force Pre-Workout (right before Crossfit)
- 7:45 am: 2 Lean Life pills (I’ve reduced this from 3 to 2 because I feel better with just a little less caffeine)
- 8:15 am: Protein Plus (Chocolate, duh)
- 9 am: Coffee + 1 tablespoon unsalted butter + 1 scoop Wild C8 MCT. If you haven’t tried this combo yet, you’re missing out!
After this, I usually don’t eat until between 12-2pm. Then I’ll have just lunch meat and cheese, or a salad with chicken. The key here is to keep it low-carb, 300-400 calories (again, my goal is fat loss right now, not huge muscle gains).
Then it’s a well-rounded dinner – I aim for 25% carb and then split the rest of the calories between fat and protein.
I use MyFitnessPal to track calories and workouts. This really helps keep me honest and it’s also kind of fun.
Is this plan perfect? No, probably not. But it works well for me and it’s one I’ve used before to shed 4-6 extra pounds of fat in a couple of weeks.
Our team is currently running a promo on the Lean Life + MCT. You can find that package here. And if you want to add Pre-Workout and Protein to your routine (like mine) you can add those to your cart and use code BURNFAT for an extra 10% off.
